These great reproduction pencils are made to help you use the Oliver’s ruling device with ease. The ruling device (or pencil holder) was introduced to help typist make vertical lines on the paper. When you attach a pencil to the special holder, you are able to draw straight lines across the paper by moving the carriage.
The ruling device was introduced in the production of Oliver No. 5—so not all No. 5s have the pencil holder. However, Oliver Nos. 7, 9, and 10 appear to have the ruling devices as a standard feature.
We haven’t had these pencils in stock for a long time. Since ours are imprinted with “The Oliver Typewriter,” they are perfect for displaying with your antique Oliver Typewriter.
This ruling device is unique to Oliver typewriters. Other typewriters may have work arounds with nooks and pen holes, but none match the elegance and utility of the Oliver Ruling Device.
One order is for 5 pencils.
