7/16" Ribbon for Early Oliver No. 5 Black Typewriter Ribbon. At last!
You're a typewriter collector and you love to type on the old Oliver "Bat-wing" No. 5 typewriter. You need a special 7/16” wide ribbon to make all those important words appear on the page.
The earliest Oliver typewriters were designed to use a 7/16” wide ribbon. This is an unusual width that isn’t easy to found today since most ribbons are ½” wide. When installed in early Oliver models ½’ ribbons don’t pass through the ribbon vibrator correctly—they have a tendency to fold and/or fray the edges of the ribbon.
By using our 7/16" ribbon, you will be sure that the ribbon passes through the ribbon mechanism correctly. Also, because it's nylon it will not fray and gum up your machine, they also last longer you'll be sure to get the darkest print quality possible from your Oliver.
NOTE FOR OLIVER NO. 5 OWNERS: If you have an Oliver number 5 and it has a backspacer lever use a 1/2" ribbon if your machine does not have a backspacer use the 7/16" ribbon.
